Our goals in the Rage Against Rape:
1) We demand the fair and speedy trial for Aurna Amin, for Mim Akhter and all other victims of rape and sexual assault, without delays or postponement.
2) A repeal of existing rape laws including-
a) The recognition of marital rape and spousal sexual abuse as a criminal offense.
b) Reviewing Evidence Act 1872 to remove all forms of institutional victim blaming.
c) Ensuring the fair right to due process and justice for all rape victims, regardless of sex, gender, age, religion, race or ethnicity.
d) Implementing sensitivity training for lawyers, judges, doctors, police officers and social workers so that they understand rape survivors better, giving them the timely help that they need.
3) We ask that the Cyber Crime Unit prosecute all those who are engaged in victim blaming, character defamation, spreading misinformation by distorting the facts of the victim amd spreading photographs of the victim without their or their family’s consent- whether they are individuals on social websites or media organizations who are not in compliance with the Digital Security Act. We ask for the Cyber Crime Unit to enforce our digital laws to protect rape victims.
4) We ask that families of rape victims be given any and all assistance for due process including providibg them with a suitable lawyer. We ask that the government step in to emsure that they do not suffer any undue harrasment- and that they receive physical protection from any political group or religious organization. We ask that the government be mindful of the victim’s pain and ensure that all investigations take place in a timely manner, with no delays and absolute transparency. We do not want the victim’s family to prolong their suffering, instead we want them to be able to pursue justice- free from bureaucratic malfeasance and any kind of physical threat.
