Childen, Infants, Students, Labors – Death Toll Keeps Rising

A minimum of 89 infants and children were killed during protests and violence in Bangladesh.
– 79 children died from pellet and bullet wounds, 9 from fire, and 1 from sound grenade splinters.
– Children as young as 4 years old were killed, including Abdul Ahad, who was watching protests from his home.
– 57 children were killed in Dhaka, and 32 outside of Dhaka.
– 42 children were students, 29 were involved in labor, and 4 remain unknown.
– Videos of killings were recorded on mobile phones and shared on social media.
– Senior lawyer Sara Hossain calls for priority in seeking justice for killed children.
– The state should file cases against those who ordered killings, rather than waiting for bereaved families.
– Killings occurred during protests for quota reforms in government jobs and demonstrations demanding resignation of the government.
– A total of 758 deaths were reported, with 341 between July 16 and August 3, and 417 between August 4 and 14.
– Many children were killed while participating in protests; others while playing at home or watching from rooftops.
– Some children died in hospitals while undergoing treatment for injuries.
