– “Shikol Bhangar Podojatra” – a protest march took place in Dhaka City on the night of August 30, 2024, to call for justice for rape victims and an end to women’s abuse
– Women’s rights activists, human rights activists, and cultural activists were among the participants
– The march commenced from Shahbagh and concluded in front of Sangsad Bhaban, featuring a 13-point demand for change, including:
– Exemplary punishment for perpetrators of rape and sexual violence
– Reformation of evidence laws in rape cases
– Elimination of victim blaming in cases of sexual violence
– Alignment of legal and social definitions of rape with international human rights standards
– Ensuring the safety of all children and fair trial for sexual abuse cases within 90 days
– The demonstration aimed to protest against rape and women abuse, seeking reforms from the interim government
– Participants called for equal rights for men and women, and an end to victim blaming
– The march also expressed solidarity with the protest against the rape and murder of doctor Moumita Debnath in India.
