16-year-old Swarna Das, a class VIII student, was shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Sunday night (1st September 2024) in Kulaura Upazila, Moulvibazar.
– Swarna and her mother were trying to cross the border into India to visit her elder brother, who lives in Tripura, with the help of two local brokers.
– The BSF opened fire on them when they reached the barbed wire border fence, killing Swarna on the spot and injuring her mother.
– The incident occurred around 9 pm on Sunday, but came to light on Monday night.
– A flag meeting was held between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and BSF at the company commander level.
– After a post-mortem, the Indian police handed over Swarna’s body to the Kulaura police through the BGB officials on Tuesday evening.
– The body was received by the BGB 46 Battalion Lalarchak Border Outpost (BOP) patrol commander and handed over to the Kulaura police.
