Happy Birthday, Shireen Huq

Shireen Huq, a renowned Bangladeshi feminist and human rights activist, has been a pivotal figure in Bangladesh’s women’s rights movement for over three decades. Born in 1952 in Dhaka, she graduated from the University of Dhaka and went on to earn her master’s degree in social sciences. Beginning her career as a journalist, Huq became involved in the women’s rights movement in the 1970s and co-founded Naripokkho, a prominent women’s rights organization, in 1978. As a vocal advocate for women’s rights and minority rights, she has collaborated with various national and international organizations, including the United Nations, to promote human rights and gender equality. Her outstanding contributions have been recognized with several awards, including the prestigious Ananya Shirsho Dosh Award in 2001. Today, Shireen Huq remains an influential voice in Bangladeshi society, tirelessly advocating for social justice and human rights.
