Thousands of students in Bangladesh came together to commemorate the one-month anniversary of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation.
– The gathering, known as the “March for Martyrs,” paid tribute to the more than 1,000 individuals who lost their lives in the unrest initially sparked by a student-led movement against job quotas, which later evolved into a nationwide uprising.
– Muhammad Yunus is now heading an interim government and is tasked with restoring stability, implementing reforms, and arranging fresh parliamentary elections.
– Yunus encouraged students to return to their studies, emphasizing that a well-educated generation is crucial for the country’s future.
– The government has replaced the chief justice, central bank governor, and police chief who were in charge during the crackdown on students.
– Additionally, the UN Human Rights Office will be sending a fact-finding mission to investigate the alleged human rights violations that occurred during the unrest.
