The nationwide nurse strike in Bangladesh has been temporarily suspended until Thursday, following an announcement by Dr. Mohammad Shariful Islam, central committee convener of the Nursing and Midwifery Reform Council.
– The strike began earlier in the day, from 9 am to 12 pm, across government and private hospitals, with nurses demanding the withdrawal of cadre officers from the Directorate of Nursing and Midwifery and their replacement with experienced nurses.
– Emergency services like ICU, CCU, and critical wards were exempt from the strike, but disruptions were still reported.
– Some wards at Dhaka Medical College Hospital were left without nurses, causing frustration among patients unable to receive care.
– The nurses warned that if their demands aren’t met promptly, the strike would continue for two more days.
