Dr. Captain (Rtd.) Sitara Begum is a highly acclaimed Bangladeshi doctor, army officer, and war hero. Born on September 5, 1946, in Kishoreganj, she displayed remarkable bravery during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971.
Sitara’s impressive career began when she was commissioned into the Medical Corps of the Pakistan Army in 1970 as a lieutenant. However, when the Bangladesh Liberation War broke out, she joined the Mukti Bahini and was appointed as the commanding officer of Bangladesh Hospital, a Mukti Bahini facility located in India.
Her selfless contributions during the war earned her the prestigious title of “Bir Protik” (Symbol of Bravery), making her one of only two women in Bangladesh to receive this honor. Sitara’s legacy extends beyond her military achievements; she continues to inspire generations with her courage and dedication to her country.
