Shirin Banu Mitil was a courageous Bangladeshi freedom fighter who played a significant role in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. Mitil joined the Mukti Bahini, the primary armed resistance force fighting for Bangladesh’s independence from Pakistan. She actively participated in battles against the Pakistani army, demonstrating exceptional bravery and resilience.
In addition to her military contributions, Mitil worked tirelessly to mobilize and organize women to support the war effort, inspiring many to join the fight for independence. Her remarkable contributions to the liberation war have been widely recognized, and she is revered as a hero in Bangladesh. Even after the war, she continued to advocate for women’s rights and social justice, leaving a lasting legacy in her country. Mitil passed away on January 5, 2019.
