Fairuz Sadaf Abantika’s Suicide Case Update
On March 2, 2024, Fairuz Sadaf Abantika, a law student at Jagannath University (JnU), tragically died by suicide at her residence in Cumilla. Prior to her death, she posted a note on Facebook accusing a classmate, Raihan Siddique Amman, of harassment, and Assistant Proctor Din Islam of verbal abuse when she sought help from the university.
Following the incident, Abantika’s mother filed a case against Amman and Islam, accusing them of abetment to suicide. Both individuals were arrested and placed on remand for questioning—Amman for two days and Islam for one day.
As of January 2025, the case remains unresolved. Investigations are ongoing, and no formal charges have yet been filed against the accused. The lack of progress has led to public outcry and demands for justice from Abantika’s family and the university community.
This case has also brought to light broader issues of harassment and institutional neglect within educational institutions, prompting calls for systemic reforms to ensure student safety and prevent such tragedies in the future.
