Attack on Women’s College Anniversary Program in Rajshahi, Bangladesh

An attack was carried out on the anniversary program of Godagari Women’s Degree College in Rajshahi on Saturday (8 February 2024) afternoon.

15-20 people vandalized 60-70 chairs, musical instruments, and a stall selling pies made by female students.
The attackers claimed they were objecting to music being played during prayers, but college authorities said the program was paused twice for prayers.
The acting principal said the girls panicked and some were injured during the attack.
The incident was reported to the police, and a sub-inspector is reviewing CCTV footage.
College authorities are deciding whether to file a written complaint.
A teacher suggested the attack may have been motivated by other factors, including local politics and resentment over outsiders being invited to the event.
