Woman Raped by Man Who Promised to Help Her Escape Abusive Husband

A 35-year-old man, Shahriar Kabir, was arrested on Saturday (22 February 2025) for allegedly raping a woman in Bhatara area of Dhaka.

The victim, who had been tortured by her husband, met Shahriar Kabir while seeking help and was raped by him on Thursday (20 February 2025).
Shahriar Kabir promised to help the victim file a case against her husband but instead raped her and threatened to keep quiet.
The victim filed a case against Shahriar Kabir on Saturday, and he was presented in court on Sunday (23 February 2025), which granted his jail request.
The victim was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s One-Stop Crisis Center for a health check-up and forensic examination.
