On Thursday (27 February 2025), Maruf Hasan (25) was sentenced to death for raping and killing a 17-year-old girl and was sent to prison following the verdict.
-This incident occurred on August 19, 2019, at Kamalapur Railway Station, Dhaka.
-The body of the teenage girl was recovered by the Railway Police from the toilet of an abandoned train compartment.
-The victim’s uncle had filed a murder case with Dhaka Railway Police, and Maruf was the sole accused.
-On June 20, 2020, the Dhaka Railway Police Station filed a charge sheet against Maruf Hasan in court under the Prevention of Violence against Women and Children Act.
-With enough evidence provided by the police, the court framed charges against Maruf Hasan on December 10, 2020. The state prosecution presented 14 witnesses in the case.
