A Dhaka University female student who was harassed by Mustafa Asif, an assistant binder at the Central Library, for not wearing a veil properly has withdrawn her case.
– The student submitted an application to Shahbagh Police Station to withdraw the case, citing death and rape threats, but the police stated that only the court has the authority to withdraw the case.
– The incident occurred on March 5, when Mustafa Asif approached the student and made obscene comments about her clothing, prompting her to file a complaint with the Dhaka University Proctor’s Office and later with Shahbagh Police Station.
– Mustafa Asif was arrested and handed over to Shahbagh Police Station, but was granted bail by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehera Mahbub Mostafa on Thursday.
– The student alleged that she received death and rape threats after filing the case and that the police handed over her personal information to the public.
– The student also expressed frustration with the justice system, stating “What else can I do, this is after all ‘Tawheed Janata’”.
– Allegations have been made against the Dhaka University proctor of pressuring the student to withdraw the case, prompting the formation of a three-member investigation committee.
