A case has been filed over the clash between police and protesters from the platform ‘Bangladesh Against Rape and Oppression’ in Shahbagh, Dhaka.

– The case accuses 12 leftist student leaders by name and includes 70–80 unidentified individuals.

– Ramna Police Station filed the case, alleging an attack on police officers during the protest.

– The named accused include leaders from Bangladesh Chhatra Federation, Bangladesh Chhatra Union, Socialist Student Front, Democratic Student Council, and other leftist groups.

– The platform was formed by university teachers and students to protest against rape and violence against women.

– On Tuesday, they attempted a mass march towards the Chief Advisor’s residence, starting from Dhaka University’s Raju Memorial Sculpture.

– Police blocked the march at Hotel InterContinental, leading to a scuffle and eventual clashes.

– Protesters claim police baton-charged them, while police allege that protesters attacked first with sticks and bricks.

– Several videos circulating on social media show both police attacking protesters and protesters attacking police.

– The police headquarters released a statement claiming that the protesters initiated the attack, which was not reflected in published media reports.

– The statement also justified blocking the march due to security concerns and maintaining traffic flow during Ramadan.

– Police claim multiple officers, including Assistant Commissioner Abdullah Al Mamun, were injured in the clash.

– The Police Service Association condemned the attack on police officers and labeled the protesters as an “unruly crowd.”
