An SSC girl-examinee in Kathalia, Jhalokathi, was harassed, and when her father and uncle protested, they were brutally beaten by the accused. The attack occurred on Monday at around 12:15 PM in the Jorkhali area of Patikhalghata Union.
– The victim’s father filed a case at Kathalia Police Station on Wednesday night, naming Raj Mallick (19), Sifat Mallick (22), and Arif Mallick (21), along with three unidentified individuals. Since then, the accused have gone into hiding, and police have yet to make any arrests.
– Raj Mallick had been repeatedly harassing the girl, proposing to her on multiple occasions. After rejecting him and informing her family, he began threatening to abduct her.
– On March 10, while she was returning home from private tutoring, the accused blocked her path, pulled at her clothes, and tore her scarf. She ran home and reported the incident to her father, who confronted the accused, leading to a violent attack where they beat him with sticks and iron rods.
– When the girl tried to protect her father, she was also assaulted. The complainant’s brother, Md. Alam Bepari, intervened but was also beaten. Locals eventually rescued them, but before leaving, the accused openly threatened to throw acid on the girl, rape her, abduct her, or kill her.
– Raj Mallick’s mother admitted that her son had gone astray and stated she would accept any legal action against him. Meanwhile, police have assured that they are trying to arrest the accused and will provide security to the victim’s family if necessary.
– The victim’s family remains in fear, urging authorities to take immediate action. Local residents have condemned the attack and demanded strict legal action, but no arrests have been made so far.
