On the night of March 13, an 18-year-old 10th-grade female student in Shivalay, Manikganj, was abducted and gang-raped after being locked in a house for a week.
-The main accused, Hridoy Hossain (25), had previously harassed the girl on her way to school.
-The victim was drugged, abducted, and raped multiple times at knifepoint, with a video recorded to threaten her.
-After a week, on the afternoon of March 19, Hridoy’s elder brother, Jasim Uddin (33), called the girl’s brother and told him to take her back.
-The girl was rescued in critical condition and admitted to the Upazila Health Complex, later being transferred to the district headquarters hospital for further treatment.
-Due to severe trauma, she is experiencing extreme psychological distress and has been advised to be transferred to the National Mental Health Institute for specialized care.
-Her family is struggling financially, with her brother being the only earner.
-The victim’s family initially informed the police, but they delayed filing a case, stating that “legal action is being taken.”
-On March 24, the girl’s brother filed a case at the District Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal after the police inaction.
-Following the court’s order, police arrested Hridoy Hossain on March 25, but the other two accused, Jasim Uddin (33) and Sujan Mia (30), remain at large.
-The victim’s health check-up is yet to be conducted, pending police action.
-The girl’s mother demanded the death penalty for the perpetrators, while police continue their search for the fugitives.
