On Thursday, April 24, at around 8 pm, leaders and activists of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis allegedly looted over 400 books from the “Abhayaranya” library in Dhanbari, Tangail.
– The library authorities filed a written complaint, stating that books by various authors, including Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam, and Humayun Ahmed, were taken.
– The accused later submitted the books to the UNO office, claiming the library had “atheist” books.
– The library’s general secretary alleged that 20-25 people in religious attire entered the library, threatened them, and packed books in sacks.
– The incident occurred after a Facebook post by Golam Rabbani, the Dhanbari Upazila Organizing Secretary of Bangladesh Jubo Khelafat Majlis, criticizing the library for promoting atheism.
– The books have been kept at the UNO office, and authorities are investigating the matter.
