Six women, including writer-activists Umme Raihana, Umme Farhana, Camelia Sharmin Chura, and Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) leaders Syeda Neelima Dola, Dutee Aranya Chowdhury, and Neela Afroz, served a legal notice on Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh for its indecent remarks against women at a public meeting.
– The notice demands an explanation within 7 days as to why a defamation case won’t be filed against Hefazat for abusing members of the Women’s Reform Commission.
– The notice alleges Hefazat’s remarks are against the law and religion of the country, and describes the organization as “utterly disrespectful and misogynistic.”
– According to the notice, Hefazat doesn’t believe in peaceful coexistence among people of all faiths and aims to create an unstable environment in Bangladesh.
– If Hefazat apologizes, promises not to make similar statements, and acknowledges their mistake, the notice-givers (Umme Farhana and Neelima Dola spoke on behalf of the group) are willing to withdraw the legal notice.
– The notice was served through advocate Palash, and the women are prepared to take legal action if no satisfactory explanation is provided within the specified timeframe.
