Two teenage women were beaten in public by a man named Nehal Ahmed Zihad with a belt at the Munshiganj launch yard. The incident occurred on a commercial launch carrying approximately 300 passengers on May 9, 2025. On the second and third floors, a group of 20-25 young males and the two teenage females, who were returning home after a picnic, were present. The males were also beaten by a mob of 10-15 people.
Initially, local people attempted to board the launch, claiming there were drug addicts on board. When the launch manager, Mohammad Shafiq, intervened, the mob gathered more people, boarded the launch, and started beating passengers. The situation was later brought under control by the police.
A video of the incident, which went viral on social media, showed a man beating a woman. The man claimed he did so as a “brother” and stated that the locals would have harassed her more if he hadn’t intervened. This incident highlights the risk of mob violence and the need for the state to take immediate action against such vigilantes.
