In Mirkadim Municipality of Munshiganj, a 12-year-old girl has publicly demanded the death penalty for her father, who murdered her mother, Mitu Akhter (28), by hacking her with a sharp knife. The accused, Suman Mia (45), confessed to the crime and surrendered to the police on Monday night. In response, a human chain protest was organized around noon on Thursday in front of the Munshiganj Press Club, under the banner of “People from all walks of life of Mirkadim Municipality.” Over a hundred locals, including Mitu’s family members and children, participated in the demonstration, demanding justice and an end to impunity for such brutal acts of violence against women.
During the protest, Mitu’s eldest daughter Marjana Akhter tearfully called for her father’s hanging, saying, “He killed my mother. I want justice.” Participants chanted slogans condemning the murder and expressed outrage over the killing. Mitu’s mother Aklima Begum filed a murder case at Sadar police station the day after the incident. The protest reflected broader community anger and the urgent demand for justice in the face of gender-based violence.
