On Friday, May 30, 2025, in Nagarkanda, Faridpur, college student and Anti-Discrimination Student Movement (ADSM) organizer Boishakhi Islam Borsha was allegedly assaulted after filing a police complaint against a neighbor who had been repeatedly sexually harassing her younger sister, Chaiti Akter. Despite prior warnings from community elders, the harassment continued, prompting Boishakhi to take legal action. She was reportedly attacked near her home on her way back from the police station.
Later that day, Boishakhi went live on Facebook, alleging that local BNP-affiliated Chhatra Dal activists were behind the attack. She described being dragged, beaten, and kicked in public, and expressed serious concerns for her and her family’s safety. The incident has triggered outrage and renewed focus on political intimidation and gender-based violence.
Following the attack, Nagarkanda Police Station OC Md Safar Ali was withdrawn and reassigned to Faridpur Police Lines. Faridpur Additional Superintendent of Police Md Shamsul Azam confirmed the transfer. ADSM leaders have condemned the attack and criticized the administration’s failure to protect a young woman standing up against sexual harassment and political threats.
