The interim has faild Nadira Yeasmin, is it that difficult to protect her?

Nadira Yeasmin, the former Assistant Professor of Bengali at Narsingdi Government College, who was transferred to Satkhira Government College under an OSD (Officer on Special Duty) order, has now been transferred again—this time to Sadat Government College in Tangail. This latest move comes amid ongoing, targeted harassment both online and offline by reactionary groups enraged by her stance on equal property rights and the publication of Hissa, a magazine advocating for those rights. Even after her initial transfer, students at Satkhira Government College submitted a memorandum to the administration demanding that she not be allowed to join.

The Interim Government has failed Nadira Yeasmin and with her, the broader fight for gender equality in Bangladesh. It has bowed to a misogynistic and patriarchal mob, which remains unsatisfied even after her removal from Narsingdi. The state’s inability or refusal, to protect her makes it indirectly complicit in this campaign of intimidation.

Earlier, Bangladesh Feminist Archives called on the government to uphold Nadira’s freedom and to demonstrate a firm commitment to the recommendations of the Women’s Rights Reform Commission. That call has been ignored.

We condemn this ongoing injustice against Nadira Yeasmin and reiterate our demand that the Interim Government fulfill its basic responsibility: to protect its citizens from targeted violence and harassment.
