On May 28, 2025, a woman was allegedly raped by ride-sharing motorcycle driver Shah Poran after booking a ride from Mirpur-12 to Shyamoli in Dhaka. According to her statement, after she donned the helmet provided by Poran, she began to lose consciousness. Poran then transported her to the Bhagdi Elite Steel Factory in Ghorashal, Narsingdi, where he raped her, stole her money, and threatened her life.
The victim managed to call the national emergency hotline 999, leading to her rescue by local police and subsequent hospitalization. On May 29, she filed a case against Poran and two unidentified accomplices at Palash Police Station. Poran was arrested in Keraniganj, Dhaka, on June 1. He confessed to the crime in court and was sent to jail by Senior Judicial Magistrate Meshkat Islam. Police are currently working to identify and apprehend the two other suspects.
