In a tragic turn of events, the body of a five-month-old baby girl found on May 31 on the banks of the Baral River in Chatmohar, Pabna, was allegedly killed by her 15-year-old mother. Police revealed at a June 2 press conference that the teenage mother, a victim of child marriage, confessed to throwing her baby into the river due to mental distress caused by overwhelming domestic responsibilities and lack of rest.
According to police, the girl was burdened with childcare and household work, including tending to livestock, with no reprieve. She reportedly told authorities she was pushed beyond her limits, leading to the fatal act. She initially staged the scene to appear as a disappearance but later confessed under interrogation and gave a statement in court. She has since been arrested and sent to jail. The child’s father filed a murder case following the recovery of the body.
