On June 15, 2025, an 11th-grade student from Baniachang, Habiganj, was gang-raped by the driver and helper of a bus in Nabiganj, Habiganj. The driver, Mohammad Sabbir Mia, has been arrested with the help of local residents, while the helper, Liton Mia, is currently on the run.
According to the victim’s statement, she boarded a “Bilash Paribahan” bus from Farmgate, Dhaka, on June 14 to return home. She fell asleep and missed her stop in Shayestaganj, eventually ending up in Sylhet. From there, she took another bus, “Ma Enterprise”, to reach Ajmeeriganj.
When all other passengers had disembarked near Sherpur in Nabiganj, the driver and helper raped her inside the empty bus. Hearing her cries for help, residents of Aushkandi responded quickly and notified the local police and army. The driver was apprehended and handed over to law enforcement.
