Singer Mainul Ahsan Nobel, arrested in a rape case, has officially married the woman who filed the complaint against him. The marriage was registered on Thursday at the gate of Keraniganj Central Jail under prison authority supervision, following a court order permitting the marriage upon mutual consent.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akhter approved the wedding on June 18 after Nobel’s lawyer submitted an application. Four witnesses were present during the ceremony. Nobel has been in custody since May 20 after being arrested for allegedly confining and raping the woman—an Eden College graduate—over a period of seven months.
According to the case, Nobel met the woman in 2018 on Facebook. In November 2023, he allegedly detained her at his home in Demra, broke her phone, raped her, and recorded the assault to blackmail her. Her family rescued her in May 2025 after a video of her being assaulted went viral.
Police initially stated that Nobel had no legal proof of marriage and noted that the woman was kept confined under threats. Despite these findings, the court permitted the formal registration of their marriage from inside jail.
Nobel rose to fame through Zee Bangla’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, but has faced ongoing controversies related to his personal conduct and treatment of women.
