Two men have been arrested in Chittagong’s Anwara Upazila for allegedly attempting to rape a young woman inside a CNG-run autorickshaw. The accused, driver Md. Forkan (25) and his accomplice Md. Hanif (32), were arrested on Wednesday night after the woman filed a case.
According to the police and case report, the woman had boarded the autorickshaw from the Gate No. 11 area of KEPZ to return home. Soon after, she realized the vehicle was being driven off-route. When she asked to get down, the driver and his accomplice ignored her request. They later stopped the vehicle in a deserted area under the pretense of a flat tire and attempted to assault her. In a desperate move, the woman jumped from the autorickshaw, sustaining injuries to her face and losing a tooth. She later sought treatment at a nearby hospital before reporting the incident to police.
Following the complaint, police arrested both suspects and produced them in court on Thursday. Officer-in-Charge Md. Monir Hossain confirmed that both men have been sent to jail pending further investigation.
