Singer Mainul Ahsan Nobel has been released on bail after spending over a month in jail in a rape case. He walked out of Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj around 9:30 AM on Wednesday. His accuser, who later became his wife, was present to receive him. The two were seen smiling and riding a motorcycle around the prison compound after his release.
Nobel was arrested on May 20, accused of raping and torturing a woman he allegedly confined for seven months. His lawyer claimed in court that the woman was actually his wife, though no documents were initially submitted. Following a court order, the couple’s marriage was officially registered on June 19 at the jail gate, in the presence of witnesses and jail authorities.
While Nobel’s release has drawn public attention, the case has also raised serious concerns about using marriage to deflect from rape allegations. Legal experts and feminist voices warn against normalizing such tactics, which risk undermining justice and survivor consent.
