A class 10 schoolgirl was allegedly raped by Sowadur Rahman Siam, who promised her marriage in Comilla city. He recorded the rape on his mobile phone and blackmailed her for nearly two years, repeatedly raping her and extorting approximately 280,000 taka from her family by threatening to leak the video.
When the victim became pregnant, Siam’s mother, Tania Akhter Moni, was informed, and the family was threatened to leave the city. Siam later took the student to his grandmother’s house, promising to resolve the matter, and forced her to take medicine to abort the child, even kicking her in the stomach. The victim’s mother rescued her and admitted her to Comilla Medical College Hospital.
Siam and his mother, Moni, were arrested on Thursday night from their home in the Chawkbazar area of Comilla city. They were sent to jail through the court on Friday afternoon. A case was filed against them under charges of rape and causing an abortion. The police are currently searching for Siam’s sister, Mim, who is also accused in the case.
