A disturbing incident of attempted rape was foiled in Barisal city, Bangladesh, thanks to the timely intervention of a group of hijras. Sohel, the accused, allegedly tried to rape an HSC examinee at her home in Rasulpur Char on Tuesday night. When the victim’s father, Babul Sardar, came to her aid, Sohel attacked him, leaving him seriously injured.
The hijras, who were nearby for a function at their shelter and prayer room, heard the screams and intervened. They apprehended Sohel, beat him, and handed him over to the police. The victim’s father suffered bloody wounds in the attack.
Barisal Kotwali Model Police Station OC Md. Mizanur Rahman confirmed the incident and stated that the hijras played a crucial role in rescuing the victim and capturing the accused. Sohel was sent to jail after a case was filed against him.
