A shocking incident of political violence has emerged from Tajumuddin Upazila in Bhola, where a female BNP leader was publicly stripped, tied with ropes, and brutally beaten on June 1. The assault reportedly took place at the Chanchra Union Parishad premises and was led by Chanchra Union BNP General Secretary Ibrahim Howlader. A viral video of the attack has sparked widespread outrage.

On July 4, the BNP’s central office announced in a press release that Ibrahim has been expelled from all party positions, including his primary membership, after allegations of “immoral activity” and breach of party discipline were proven.

According to local BNP leaders, the female leader, also a former Union Parishad member, was attacked after she went to the Parishad office demanding allocation of 100 VGF cards. In the video, she is heard explaining that she had tried to distribute food aid but was violently stopped and assaulted by a group including Alauddin Dafadar and Kalimulla Dafadar. Her clothes were forcibly removed, she was beaten for hours, and her teeth were knocked out.

She was first admitted to Tajumuddin Upazila Health Complex and later transferred to Bhola Sadar Hospital due to the severity of her injuries.

Chanchra Union Volunteer Party President Nesaruddin confirmed that no one except Ibrahim Howlader could operate at the Union Parishad. Chhatra Dal General Secretary Sharif Howlader condemned the attack, saying, “It was inhumane to strip and torture a woman in front of hundreds of people.”

Women’s Party President Farida Yasmin called the incident “medieval barbarity” and warned that if those responsible go unpunished, it will raise serious questions about women’s safety in public and political spaces.

Tajumuddin Police confirmed that a case has been filed. All accused are currently out on bail.
