On July 24, 2025, students of Eden Women’s College in Dhaka detained several Moumita Paribahan buses in protest after two female students were harassed over fare payment. The incident occurred the previous day when Atika Ulfat and Sadia Tabassum, upon showing their student IDs, requested the legally mandated half fare (25 taka). The bus helper denied the request, demanded 30 taka, and hurled insulting remarks. The driver reportedly escalated the situation by refusing to stop the bus properly, putting the students at risk.
In response, Eden students blocked 8–9 Moumita buses in front of the college. They issued eight demands, including mandatory half-fare for female students even on weekends, respectful behavior from staff, guaranteed safe boarding and drop-offs, enforcement of reserved seats for women, and a formal apology from the driver and helper.
Bus company representatives and Lalbagh police met with the students, accepted all demands, and issued an official apology. Eden College authorities condemned the incident and expressed full support for the students. Protesters emphasized that harassment of women on public transport must be treated as a serious and punishable offense.
