The body of Faria Tasnim Jyoti (32), a pharmaceutical sales representative who went missing after falling into an uncovered manhole in Tongi’s Hossain Market area, was recovered three days later on Tuesday morning. Her body was found around 9 AM in the Shalikchura Beel area of Gazipur’s Bastuhara neighborhood, under water hyacinths.

Originally from Chuadanga’s Baganpara area, Faria Tasnim had been living in Dhaka’s Mirpur-10 and was visiting Imperial Hospital in Tongi to sell medicines on Sunday night when she fell into the open manhole around 9:15 PM. Locals tried to rescue her but failed, prompting a call to the Fire Service. Rescue operations were hampered by heavy rain and poor visibility, continuing over three days and involving multiple agencies, including Gazipur City Corporation and police.

Shaheen Alam, Senior Station Officer at Tongi Fire Service, confirmed that the drain she fell into eventually leads to Shalikchura Beel, where her body was discovered. In response to the tragic incident, the Gazipur City Corporation has formed a four-member investigation committee, headed by the city secretary, with representatives from the fire service and other relevant agencies. The committee is expected to submit its report within seven working days.
