We are honored to present Episode 14 of the Bangladesh Feminist Oral History Project, an initiative of the Bangladesh Feminist Archives dedicated to documenting the voices, struggles, and legacies of Bangladeshi feminists across generations.

In this episode, we speak with Dibarah Mahboob, a filmmaker, visual anthropologist, and founder of Deeory Ghor Atelier, a women- and queer-led film and arts collective in Dhaka. Her work blends documentary film, public art, and research-based storytelling focused on gender, displacement, environmental justice, and memory.

Dibarah holds a Master’s in Visual Anthropology from Goldsmiths, University of London as a Chevening Scholar, and a BA in International Relations and Philosophy from Mount Holyoke College. Her latest short film, KRAATI (2024), supported by the BRAC James P. Grant Fellowship, won Best First-Time Filmmaker at the Barcelona Cine Experience and screened at festivals such as Cine Paris, QWOCMAP, and Anatolia International.

Her creative practice combines ethnography with participatory and site-specific art. From murals showcased at COP28 Dubai to installations across South Asia, Dibarah’s work centers on feminist memory, climate justice, and decolonial storytelling.

Topics Discussed:
-Entering visual anthropology and feminist filmmaking
-Founding Deeory Ghor Atelier and building collective art spaces
-Making KRAATI and exploring gendered environmental grief
-Using public art as a method of feminist memory and activism
-Envisioning decolonial futures and feminist storytelling
