A Chandpur court has sentenced Bishwanath Chandra Das (34) to life imprisonment for the 2013 rape of a college student. The court also imposed a fine of Tk 20,000, according to Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Abdul Kader Khan.
The incident occurred on September 24, 2013, when the victim was abducted on her way to college by Bishwanath and his associates. The victim’s uncle filed a case at Matlab Dakkhin Police Station on October 9, 2013, and police submitted a charge sheet on November 26, 2013.
After hearing testimonies from four witnesses, Judge Md Abdul Hannan of the Chandpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal delivered the verdict in the absence of the accused.
