A brutal killing has shocked Tangail’s Jelkhana area in Sakhipur upazila, where 35-year-old Kakoli was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband, Md Mehedi, in front of their two children.
According to Abul Kalam, officer-in-charge of Sakhipur Police Station, Mehedi often quarreled with his wife and had become withdrawn and depressed following the failure of a business venture abroad. Early Sunday morning, a dispute between the couple escalated when Mehedi attacked Kakoli with a sharp weapon as their children watched helplessly.
Kakoli was rushed to the Sakhipur Health Complex, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. Mehedi fled the scene and remains at large. Kakoli’s body has been sent to Tangail General Hospital for autopsy.
This case underscores the deadly consequences of unaddressed domestic violence, where patriarchal power dynamics, economic strain, and male frustration converge—often leaving women to bear the fatal cost.
