A disturbing video from Sherpur’s Sribardi upazila shows 80-year-old Md Khalilur Rahman dragging his paralyzed, bedridden wife into the yard, placing her in a shallow hole, and attempting to bury her alive. The incident took place Friday afternoon (August 9) near Khoshalpur Kanipara Bazar in Kakilakura Union and has sparked widespread outrage after the footage went viral on social media.
The victim, 70-year-old Khosheda Begum, has been bedridden for six years due to paralysis. In the footage, she can be seen crying out as Khalilur shovels dirt over her and slaps her, while bystanders watch without intervening. He eventually abandons the act and walks away. The video was reportedly recorded by the couple’s 19-year-old grandson.
Neighbors said Khalilur had been caring for his wife for years but believe he acted out of frustration and exhaustion. Some noted that he had recently purchased items for her care. The video’s release has led to condemnation across social media and calls for legal action.
Sribardi Police Station OC Md Anwar Zahid said officers went to the scene immediately after seeing the footage. While locals suggested the matter might be “resolved socially,” he said legal action will be taken if a written complaint is filed. Attempts to contact Khalilur were unsuccessful as his phone remained switched off.
