A housewife, Fahmida Tahsin Keya (25), died under suspicious circumstances in Sheorapara, Dhaka, on Wednesday night. Her family alleges that she was murdered by her husband, Sifat Ali (30), who fled after informing them of her death by phone.

According to Keya’s mother Nazma Begum, Sifat called her at 1:56 a.m. saying, “Keya is no more.” When the family rushed to the hospital, Sifat was absent. Instead, they found his driver, a domestic worker’s son, and a friend, Maruf Newaz Prem, at the scene. Family members reported that Prem privately admitted, “Sifat is killing your daughter, we will give you a witness.”

Keya’s relatives said she endured frequent abuse in her marriage. “He used to beat her in front of the children,” her father Rafiqul Islam said. The family noted visible marks on her neck and rejected the idea of sudden natural death. Keya leaves behind four young children, including two enrolled at Viqarunnisa and Adamjee Cantonment schools.

Police from Mirpur Model Station confirmed recovering the body, which is now at Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. “It is not yet clear whether it was suicide or murder. The cause of death will be determined through post-mortem and investigation,” said Officer-in-Charge Sajjat Roman.
