In a shocking incident in Boalkhali, Chattogram, a woman was tied to a tree and beaten by a mob after being falsely branded a “child thief.” The attack, which was filmed and circulated on Facebook, shows the victim bound and pleading for help while one man strikes her with a gas cylinder.
The incident took place on Wednesday evening in Shakpura Union. According to the case filed later that night at Boalkhali Police Station, the assault began after the woman went to the home of Azizul Haque, with whom she had been in a relationship for over a year. She alleged that Azizul denied knowing her, attacked her, and, with the help of his family, seized her belongings, including her mobile phone, bag, and gold jewelry. They then taped her mouth, accused her of child theft, and incited neighbors to tie her to a tree and beat her.
Police rescued the victim after a call to the national emergency number 999. She later filed a case naming nine individuals and 80–90 unidentified people. One suspect has already been arrested and sent to jail, while authorities continue operations to apprehend others. Attempts to reach Azizul Haque for comment were unsuccessful.
