In just the first seven months of this year, domestic violence has claimed more than 300 lives across Bangladesh. According to Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK), between January and July there were 363 incidents of family violence, leading to 322 deaths. Among those killed were 208 women and children, while another 114 people died by suicide.
ASK data further shows that most of these killings were committed by husbands, followed by incidents involving in-laws and women’s own family members.
Alongside these deaths, thousands of women have sought urgent help. The National Women and Children’s Affairs Ministry’s helpline (109) received 48,745 calls between January and July from women facing physical and psychological abuse.
