The Gopalganj University of Science and Technology (GUST) has declared a strict stance to eliminate ragging, calling it a punishable crime that harms the academic and social environment.

At a program held in the university hall on Tuesday at 6:30 pm, Proctor Dr. Arifuzzaman Rajib said a committee has already been formed to prevent ragging and a statement will be issued soon. He noted that the UGC has instructed universities to arrange seminars on drugs and discipline, and ragging will be included as it falls under law and order issues.

Assistant Proctor Ariful Islam added that the proctorial body is conducting regular patrols during class hours and counseling students on the dangers of ragging and drugs. He warned that any student caught will face maximum punishment to set an example. Victims, he said, are encouraged to report incidents with evidence so strict action can be taken.
