On Tuesday night, August 26, 2025, a 25-year-old woman named Chandni Akhtar died in Khulna’s Sonadanga area after being assaulted by her husband during a family dispute. The incident took place around 9 p.m. near Boyra Islamia College, police said.
Relatives and neighbors reported that Chandni had been living with her husband Masud, a mason, in a rented house where her younger brother Hridoy also stayed. That evening, an argument broke out after Hridoy demanded repayment of 200 taka he had lent Masud. The quarrel escalated, and Masud allegedly struck Chandni. She collapsed soon after and was rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Police confirmed that Masud fled immediately after the incident. Sonadanga Model Police Station OC Shafiqul Islam stated that Chandni’s body has been sent for autopsy and that attempts are underway to apprehend Masud. As of the morning of August 27, 2025, no case had yet been filed.
