On August 31, 2025, students of the Engineering Rights Movement at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) reported that a police constable had threatened to rape a female engineering student through obscene comments on social media for her involvement in the ongoing movement. Following their demand, the constable has been removed from duty, though his name and identity have not been disclosed.
BUET student leader Shakil Ahmed said female students were facing repeated threats of death and rape online, part of the wider cyberbullying against student activists. In the afternoon, students met with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner, raising concerns over the harassment of women students, the use of force on students in Shahbagh on August 28, and the assault of an engineering student in Rangpur.
DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjad Ali told reporters after the meeting that an investigation committee has been formed over police violence against students. He said discussions were held on ensuring accountability and on the responsibilities of both students and police so that similar incidents do not recur.
