A female student of Dhaka University filed a writ petition challenging the candidacy of SM Farhad, the General Secretary candidate backed by Islami Chhatra Shibir, citing his alleged anti-liberation stance and ties with a banned organization.
– Following the High Court’s suspension of the DUCSU election, another student, Ali Husen, posted on Facebook, making threatening comments against the female petitioner, including a reference to a “gang rape march.”
– The post sparked widespread condemnation from student leaders, faculty members, and the general student body.
– Abdul Kader, VP candidate in the DUCSU election, and Samina Luthfa, a sociology professor at Dhaka University, called for action against Ali Husen for his statements.
– SM Farhad has denied any connection with Ali Husen and filed a complaint with the DU proctor, demanding legal and administrative action against him.
– The writ petitioner has faced bullying, harassment, and bot attacks since the incident, stating that her intention was not to foil the DUCSU elections but to address Chhatra Shibir’s actions that she believes go against the core objectives of DUCSU.
