BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s political advisor Abul Khair Bhuiyan has accused rival parties of misleading rural women by using religious teaching as a tool. Speaking at the Dalal Bazar Union Mahila Dal workers’ conference in Sadar upazila on Sunday (September 7), he alleged that women members of a certain party were “deceiving mothers and sisters in the villages” by teaching prayers and Surahs in talim sessions, charging money, and making false promises of spiritual rewards. “If women need to learn the Quran, we will arrange it ourselves through a non-partisan Huzoor, and provide education with Bangla and English books,” he said.
Without naming Jamaat directly, Bhuiyan suggested the remarks were aimed at them, saying the group had announced everything from female members to MP candidates while simultaneously threatening to boycott elections. “They work for elections all day but claim they won’t participate if their demands are not met. The people of Bangladesh are election-oriented, and the next national polls will take place on time,” he said, adding that BNP would return to power and Khaleda Zia would serve as Prime Minister for the fourth time.
The conference was organized by Dalal Bazar Union Mahila Dal and attended by District Mahila Dal Organizing Secretary Nayan Begum, Sadar Upazila West BNP General Secretary Mohiuddin Bitu Patwari, as well as other BNP and Jubo Dal leaders.
