Chittagong University (CU) has become a center of unrest as different groups of students staged protests on Sunday (September 7) with varied demands. The Chhatra Dal branch marched from Shaheed Minar to the administrative building, showing a “red card” to the administration and demanding the resignation of the proctorial body. Leaders accused the proctor and registrar of making offensive remarks about female students and said the administration had failed to ensure security after a clash between students and locals.

Leftist student groups, rallying under the banner of Rights-Conscious Students, also pressed seven demands, including resignation of the proctorial body, medical care for the injured, safer housing, fair investigations into recent cases, punishment of attackers, and an inclusive coordination committee for campus security. They have been holding torchlight processions and symbolic protests, including renaming the administrative building “Zamindar Bhaban of the Recruitment Trade” to highlight alleged corruption in hiring.

Meanwhile, History Department students protested the harassment of Assistant Proctor Nurul Hamid Kanan, demanding strict action against those responsible. Female students held a separate demonstration in front of the administrative building, condemning the slut-shaming of a fellow student on Facebook and calling for stronger security measures on campus. With multiple fronts of discontent, CU’s campus remains tense as pressure mounts on the administration.
