An idol was vandalized at Rakshakali Temple in Swarupdaha Palpara of Poradaha union, Mirpur upazila of Kushtia, on Sunday night (September 7) around 8:15 pm. Police confirmed that the heads and hands of Kartik and Saraswati idols were broken, along with parts of the duck and peacock figures.

Kushtia Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman, RAB-12 Kushtia camp commander Additional Superintendent of Police Sudipta Sarkar, and leaders of various political parties visited the scene that night. Authorities said efforts are underway to identify those responsible.

Temple committee president Amaresh Ghosh stated that the idol was still under construction when the attack occurred. With electricity out due to load shedding and light rain falling, the miscreants took the opportunity to damage the idols. He discovered the vandalism upon returning to the temple, where painting work for Durga Puja preparations was scheduled to begin Monday.

Mirpur Police Station OC Mominul Islam confirmed that an IP camera from the temple was also stolen. While the temple committee has not filed a case, police and RAB said they are treating the incident seriously and investigating.
