On the evening of Wednesday, October 1, police confirmed that a case has been filed against Executive Engineer Md. Belal Ahmed and Deputy Assistant Engineer Shishir Chandra Debnath of the Department of Education and Engineering in Gaibandha, following allegations of assault and harassment of a female journalist.
According to the case statement lodged on Tuesday night, September 30, with Gaibandha Sadar Police Station, journalist Disha Akhtar, District Correspondent of Daily Mukta Khabar, was attacked inside the office of Shishir Chandra Debnath on September 24 while collecting information. Disha reported that Shishir used obscene language, physically assaulted her, and forcibly took her phone. The case also accuses Executive Engineer Belal Ahmed of involvement.
Police officials said the case has been registered as Case No. 49. While Shishir Chandra claimed he “did not know anything” about the case and said he is currently on leave, Belal Ahmed stated that they would also take legal action in response. The investigation is ongoing.
