A court in Bogra has issued an arrest warrant against police officer Kripasindhu Bala, the former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dhunat Police Station, on charges of destroying evidence in a case related to the rape of a teenage girl.
A supplementary charge sheet has been filed against Kripasindhu Bala and the main accused, Muraduzzaman alias Mukul (54), a college teacher from Dhunat upazila. Kripasindhu, now serving in the Gazipur Industrial Police, was the investigation officer when the alleged crime occurred.
According to Public Prosecutor Mozammel Haque of the Bogra Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, investigators confirmed that Kripasindhu destroyed key evidence in exchange for a bribe. The court took the report into consideration and issued an arrest warrant. The main accused, Muraduzzaman, remains on bail under a High Court order.
The victim’s mother alleged that Kripasindhu accepted a large bribe to protect the perpetrator. Following complaints of misconduct, the case was transferred to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), which took over from local police and the Detective Branch.
The PBI’s Inspector Anwarul Islam submitted the new charge sheet on Tuesday after three previous investigating officers had been replaced.
The case stems from allegations that in October 2021, Muraduzzaman repeatedly raped a 10th-grade girl at a rented house, taking photos and threatening to post them online. When the images were later leaked, the victim’s mother filed a case on May 12, 2022.
